This snapping turtle was making the rounds in Steamboat Rock last week, possibly looking for a place to lay eggs. The female turtles’ peak egg-laying season is during June and July when they scout out sandy spots to deposit 25 to 80 eggs a year. After the young turtles leave the nest, they can live 30 to 40 years. Photo by Kenny Primus
