Willis “Bill” Arleigh Stowe was born Nov. 18, 1932, to Quentin Arleigh and Adeline Ubben Stowe in Georgetown/Iowa Falls, Iowa. His father passed away when Bill was four months old. His mother then married Wilbur Perry and the family moved to New Providence. Bill attended school in New Providence, graduating with the class of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1952 and served until 1957 in the Naval Air Wing as a patrol squadron radio operator. Upon returning home, he met Shila Kay Hanson from Hubbard at the roller-skating rink in Iowa Falls, and the two were married on March 2, 1958, in Hubbard, Iowa.

Bill and Shila spent many happy years on the farm and welcomed four sons: Michael, David, Cary and Craig. In 1980, Bill began working for Lawn Hill Coop in New Providence and retired in 1996. He was a member of the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church.

Bill’s love of the outdoors was shared with his family and many hours were spent together in the timber hunting, fishing, and trapping. He also enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, refinishing furniture and caning chairs. A favorite pastime was watching college sports of any kind. Bill’s greatest joy was watching his sons and grandchildren participate in their activities as well as hearing about their hunting and fishing trips and adventures.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Shila; daughter-in-law Sandy Stowe; sons David (Diana) Stowe; Cary (Janelle) Stowe; and Craig (Richelle) Stowe; grandchildren Lindsey Melander; Megan (Aaron) Ohrt; Laura Stowe; Allison Stowe; Natalie Stowe; Andrew (Megan) Stowe; Rebecca (Levi) Cook; and Alex Stowe; step grandchildren Aimee (Rob) Dyson; and Stephanie (Ryan) Ridder; great grandchildren Alice and Aiden Melander; and Sawyer and Carson Cook; step great grandchildren Riley, Brannon and Aleice Dyson; and Reese, Cody and Gavin Ridder. Also surviving are his brother Edgar Perry; brother-in-law Paul Hanson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Michael in 2012, his parents, and his sister-in-law Charlene Hanson.
