Norma Emily Anna Fairchild

Norma Emily Anna Fairchild, 102, formerly of Waverly died February 25, 2026, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center in Shell Rock.

 She was born July 5, 1923, in Pleasant Township of Hardin Co, Iowa, daughter of Max Ziesman and Eda Teske. Norma grew up on the farm and attended Rough Woods Country School and then graduated from Eldora High School in 1941.  She went to work in Eldora at the 5 & 10 store and later worked at the lumberyard. She married Willard Fairchild on June 16, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran parsonage in Eldora. They lived in Marshalltown, Grundy Center, and Waverly.  While in Grundy Center, Norma helped at the Western Auto store they owned.  She enjoyed being outside gardening, growing vegetables and flowers.  Sewing, cross stitch, and crafts also were enjoyed. 

Survived by:  two children, Nancy Vorderstrasse of Hastings, NE and Roger (Sharee) Fairchild of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Brent (Angie) Vorderstrasse, Ayr, NE; Kristin Vorderstrasse, Kearney, NE; Michelle (Major Jesse) Arbogast, Kearney, NE & Saudi Arabia; Cory Fairchild, Henrico, VA; Garrett Fairchild, Cedar Falls; Leah Fairchild, Cedar Falls; four great grandchildren,  Ziesman, Teske  & Fairchild Cousins, Great Nieces & Nephews. 

 Preceded in death by her husband, Willard, son, David Fairchild, parents, Max and Eda Ziesman, sister & brother-in law, Elvira & Edwin Engel; Niece, Karen (Engel) Keller, son-in-law, Dennis Vorderstrasse.

 A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Corey Smith officiating. Burial will be held in the Eldora City Cemetery, Eldora. Visitation will be held for an hour prior to services on Monday at the church.  The service will be livestreamed on the Redeemer Lutheran Church’s Facebook page.
