Stanley Winters, 92

Stanley Winters, 92, of Iowa Falls, passed away Jan. 22, 2024 at Hansen Family Hospital. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls with burial in Northlawn Memory Gardens and visitation an hour before the service. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. 

Stanley Ray Winters was born Oct. 12, 1931 in Caldwell, Idaho to Miles and Lula (Reese)Winters. He graduated from New Providence High School in 1949 where he played basketball, baseball and was a class officer. With his academic achievements, he received a full scholarship to Upper Iowa, however, after attending one semester he decided to leave and become an Iowa Farmer. Stan married the love of his life Inez Oct. 14, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They shared 71 years of love!

Stan was a person who never slowed down. He and Inez enjoyed many years of dancing, roller-skating, bowling, sports events, country music concerts, family picnics, and family vacations. He was a hard-working farmer and helped his neighbors, friends and relatives whenever they needed help. He had a huge heart and love for his children. Family was extremely important to Stan and he took his family on yearly vacations; making many memories. After retiring from farming, Stan enjoyed wood working, playing cards and many rounds of golf. His golfing adventures included 4 hole-in-ones! Stan was a loving husband, dad and grandpa who attended many sports activities of his kids and grandkids. When he wasn’t attending a sports game he was watching an Iowa Hawkeye game on TV. He even enjoyed coaching his family slow pitch softball team and played himself as the pitcher. Stan was larger than life and loved his family deeply and would do anything for them. He always said, “Families who play together, stay together!”

Stan is survived by his children Russ (Pam) Winters of Dewey, Arizona, Randy (Dianna) Winters of Iowa Falls, Dave (Jackie) Winters of Eldora and Pam Cognasi of Amarillo, Texas, brother Lawrence Winters of Hampton, sister Kay Wood of Grand Junction, Colorado, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Inez, son-in-law Rick Cognasi, grandson Ryan Winters, brothers Floyd, Kenneth, Lester, Merle, Willard, Millard and Don Winters and sisters Norma Krueger, Hazel Anderson, Ferne Winters and Jeanette Payne.
