Michael "Mike" McCloud

Michael "Mike" McCloud passed away January 1, 2021 after a 2 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mike was born November 23, 1965 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Larry and Judy McCloud. Mike grew up in Union, Iowa with his brother and sisters. Mike graduated from Union-Whitten High School. Mike received his Associate of Arts degree from Marshall County Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa and his Bachelor of Science degree from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Mike participated in ROTC while at Emporia State University and accepted his commission in Military Intelligence. Mike completed his Officer Basic Corp at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Mike then went on to serve in the Army Reserves for 20 years.

Mike married Elizabeth "Beth" Olsen on August 12, 1989 and he has two beautiful children Elizabeth "Nikki" and Christopher "Chris". Mike began graduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa studying cartography and remote sensing which combined well with his military training and allowed him to pursue his goals. Mike wrote two micro armor gaming books: Operation Sea Lion Volumes I and II. Mike's last position was in Emergency Management.

Mike was an avid fan of the original Star Wars trilogy and Jaws. Mike enjoyed gaming and adapted several movies to games such as Star Wars and the Battle of the Five Armies. Mike also enjoyed creating custom Star Wars figures. Mike enjoyed finding and playing new board games with his family. Mike was known to his family and friends as 'Dolph' due to his life long devotion to the Miami Dolphins football team, and as we all know, there have been years when that was definitely a difficult alliance.

Mike is survived by his wife Beth McCloud of Burlingame, KS, his daughter Nikki McCloud (Jon Campbell) of Carroll, IA, his son Chris McCloud of Springfield, MO, his granddaughters Lilly Campbell and Kennedy Campbell of Carroll, IA, his mother Judy McCloud (Al Rushford) of New Providence, IA, and his mother-in-law Pamela Olsen of Burlingame, KS.

Mike is predeceased by his father Larry McCloud and his father-in-law Robert Olsen Sr. A memorial will be planned when it has been determined that gatherings are safe.
