Jay A. Spieker, 68, of Ackley, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at his home in Ackley. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 11, at the St. Peter's Country Church in rural Wellsburg with burial in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley. Masks will be required for the service.

Jay A. Spieker was born on June 20, 1952, in Eldora to Allen and Matilda (Finger) Spieker. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1970 and then later joined the United States Army in 1972. On July 26, 2008, Jay was united in marriage to Debra Werkman in the St. Peter’s Country Church in Wellsburg. Jay was a member of the Jolly Boys and he was the American Legion Commander. He loved watching his children and grandchildren’s activities. Jay was also a member of the 1977 Class B Softball Champs ASA for Men’s Fastpitch.

Jay is survived by his wife Debra Spieker of Ackley, children Garth (Jennifer) Spieker of Eldora, Daniel (Marcy) Spieker of Polk City, Anne (Andy) Kay of Denver, Colorado and Kayla (Jeff) Miller of Reinbeck, grandchildren Cade, Emma, Jack, Thomas, Emily Spieker and Kenneth and Matilda Kay, sisters Maxine (John) Heath of Houston, Texas and Ruth (Neil Webster) Spieker of Iowa City, brother-in-law Charles Gustafson of Kalona, mother-in-law Ardyne (Bob) Waters of Wellsburg, father-in-law Marvin (Red) Werkman of Holland, 4 nephews and 3 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Gustafson and niece Erin Gustafson.
