Tigers crowned NICL XC champs

 

WAVERLY- The South Hardin boys came ready to run and walked away champions of the North Iowa Cedar League Conference at Wartburg College’s Max Cross Country Course here Saturday.

The title was a team effort as all five scoring Tigers earned first and second-team all-conference honors and scored a winning 50 points.

“The guys knew what needed to be done coming into the meet and took care of business. We had to compete for the entire 3.1 miles and did,” stated South Hardin coach Mike Olson.

Individually, the late season push of BCLUW senior Caleb Silver continued, capturing the gold medal with another dominating performance.

South Hardin’s Kolby Winter ended the bronze medalist, taking third with a 17:14 time followed by Alex Hassan and Jacob VanderWilt in the top 10 for first-team honors. Hassan finished fifth in 17:32 and Vander Wilt ninth at 17:41. Justin Meints hit the finish line 15th and Gavin Roy 18th with times of 17:59 and 18:12, respectively, for second-team honors.
