School threat

Alert parents notified the South Hardin High School and police were summoned and took into custody a 9th grader at the high school who was alleged to have threatened to secure a firearm, bring it to school and use it to confront three other students, ninth and tenth graders. The threat was made via text message, the school says,   and the message had reportedly said the threat would be carried out February 12, (Monday). The accused was interviewed by law enforcement and thought the individual didn’t have immediate access to a firearm, indications were that one was to be sought from a friend.

The student was taken into custody and will not be allowed to return to the South Hardin School.

The district is asking parents and students to look to the case as an example of how quick response and cooperation from parents helped forestall what could have been a more ominous situation.
