Eagles fall short against Ellsworth

 

NEW PROVIDENCE- Ellsworth Community College withstood a late charge by the Quakerdale Prep basketball team to capture a 69-60 victory here Tuesday.

The host Eagles chopped a 21-point deficit to four, 64-60 with 1:50 remaining, uncorking a 19-2 run. The comeback ended there as the Panthers tallied the final five points.

Mason Williams’ bucket pulled Quarkerdale within the four after Lateef Johnson scored the previous five points. Johnson also started the rally with a three-point play.

Ellsworth owned a 36-29 halftime lead and stretched the advantage to 51-38 on a 12-5 run. After the Eagles’ Trey Drummond sank a three-ball, the Panthers scored 11-in-a-row building the 62-41 gap.

South Hardin graduates Kevin Rewoldt (2018) and Kaleb Roling (2019) hit the hardwood for Ellsworth. Rewoldt, a starter for the Panthers, scored nine points, including two free throws to stretch the lead to 68-60. Roling tallied three points with a corner trey during the visitor’s second half 11-straight points.
