Cougars state bound

ACKLEY- The pitches were sizzling and the bats a booming, lifting the AGWSR softball team over St. Edmond, 9-0 during the Class 1A, Region 2 final here Monday.

The convincing victory earned the fourth-ranked Cougars (26-7) the third-seed in the eight-team 1A field at next week’s state tournament.

 AGWSR pitcher Taryan Barrick was once again overpowering. The junior standout hurled a no-hitter – her third of the season and struck out 15 against one walk.

The Cougars’ offense, which produced eight runs combined in the team’s first two regional games, exploded early and didn’t quit. The winners banged out eight base hits and five were for extras with two home runs.
