Cougars rally to clip Comets

In a battle of first-year head coaches the Schipper-led AGWSR boys’ basketball team edged BCLUW, guided by Evan Janssen, 47-44 during North Iowa Cedar League West Conference play here Friday.

The Cougars rallied for the victory, outscoring the visiting Comets 19-10 in the fourth quarter and flipped a 34-28 deficit through three into the three-point win.

Sophomore Daniel Stahl and senior Luke Starr were clutch down the stretch for AGWSR (1-0, 1-1). Stahl scored five of his eight points when he made a basket to pull the hosts within 41-40 and then sank a three-point goal for a two-point lead with 1:35 remaining. Starr, who netted a game-high 19 points, then made four free throws – first two with 38-seconds showing and another pair with 8.4. Between Starr’s free throws, Tanner Weichers drew a big charge call.
