Staff with the Eldora Newspapers took awards for news writing and publication design at the annual Iowa Press Association gathering in Des Moines recently. Now-publisher of the Grundy Register Newspaper, Rob Maharry, had worked for the Eldora papers at time he wrote a series of articles on an interest group’s campaign to radically change operations at the State Training School. Maharry also won one of three Genevieve Mauck Stoufer Outstanding Young Journalist awards for work done at Eldora and Grundy Center last year.  And the Eldora Newspaper’s Hardin County Visitor Guide for 2019, a tourism-oriented publication, took second place in a special category for graphic design and community promotion.  Stephanie McManus, Bailey Primus, Betty Gotto, and Emily Ubben, of the Eldora Newspaper design and sales departments shared the award.  There were 57 awards distributed to papers associated with the Mid-America Publishing group. The Eldora and Grundy Center newspapers are part of the family of over 20 publications. The Press Association gathering honored member papers from all across Iowa.
