Adopt a hydrant

If you want to help out your local firefighter, consider adopting the fire hydrant down the street.

The last few weeks have shown once again how critical hydrant adoptions can be.

City crews try to liberate as many of the hydrants from the snow as possible, but when the accumulations are like those lately, that can be a challenge. If home or business owners pitch in and clear the neighborhood hydrant it helps everyone out.

That was demonstrated a few days ago when a residential fire on the south side of Eldora saw firemen arrive to first clear a hydrant for use.
